For easy access to multiple MARTA stations and affordable housing, downtown Atlanta is the place to be, although there aren’t many grocery or retail options. Fairlie-Poplar is a historic district with condos and lofts that have extra character.
Centennial Hill, SoNo, Midtown and Old Fourth Ward are all neighborhoods near the Civic Center and North Avenue MARTA stations. There’s easy access to both downtown and Midtown Atlanta, although crime can be heavy the closer you are to Boulevard.
A great live, work and play area, Midtown has just about every amenity you can think of. Real estate choices include low-rise and high-rise condos as well as historic homes next to Piedmont Park. More affordable houses are in Home Park next to Georgia Tech.
The two Buckhead-area MARTA stations are primarily near condos and townhomes, although single-family neighborhoods are near the Lenox MARTA station. Prices tend to be high due to the prime Buckhead location near malls and trendy restaurants.
Near Lenox Square Mall, Brookhaven has parks, stores and restaurants. The area is popular with families and young professionals with a mix of single-family and condo/townhome real estate. About a 10-minute walk from the MARTA station is the Brookhaven Village where you’ll find more condos.
With a historic downtown area and a mix of single-family houses and condos, Chamblee offers small-town and semi-suburban living close to Atlanta. A few parks, restaurants and stores, including Walmart, are in walking distance from the MARTA station.
Near Atlanta’s international food mecca (Buford Highway), the Doraville MARTA station has a small downtown area with a library, public pool and city offices. Traffic is heavy on the highway, and housing options are mostly single family.
The Inman Park MARTA station is near parks, retail stores, restaurants and nightlife with single family, townhome, loft and condo options. Reynoldstown has more affordable houses, but isn’t as safe as Inman Park.
Near the Dome and Vine City MARTA stations is the Vine City and Castleberry Hill neighborhoods. Vine City is not the safest Atlanta neighborhood (though housing is very inexpensive). The Ashby MARTA station is in a walkable and revitalizing area with parks, restaurants and a Walmart. Choose from the historic Washington Park neighborhood or housing in Ashview Heights or around the Atlanta University Center.
