Rating System

Area ratings are based on a walk score, transit score and crime rates to determine how easy and how safe it is to commute and live in an area without a car.

The walk and transit scores are calculated by Walk Score.

The safety rating is calculated using Atlanta Police Department reports from 2014. A score out of 100 is estimated based on the number of crimes in the immediate area, including within two blocks of a MARTA station, with extra weight given to aggravated assaults, residential burglary and robberies, things that are of more concern if you are walking the streets or are a resident. The higher the rating, the safer the area.

All three scores (walk, transit, crime) are then added to create an overall rating out of 3oo possible points. This number is translated into a letter grade:
