The Avondale MARTA station on the blue rail line is one of Atlanta’s quieter stations. Above ground and tucked away in trees, it is almost hidden from view, and the surrounding residential area offers more homes than hustle and bustle. But downtown Decatur is just a train stop or walk away and several new businesses and restaurants are reclaiming old industrial areas nearby, providing options for things to do.
If you’re arriving at the station for the first time, the layout is very simple. All exits off the train platform go to one central concourse area. From that point, there’s the option to leave the station via the north or south parking lot. Due to its location next to a freight rail line, like many blue line stations, the Avondale station provides a way to get over the tracks safely, with access to East Ponce de Leon Avenue in the north and East College Avenue in the south.
