If you’ve never seen a double decker transit station, then head to the Ashby MARTA station on Atlanta’s blue and green rail line. One of the more unique stations in the MARTA system, Ashby not only provides access to a historic neighborhood, restaurants and outdoor recreation, but the station itself is an attraction. The east and west lines are stacked on top of each other, not next to each other on the same platform as most all the other stations.
At street level, there are three station entrances near the intersection of Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. with Carter Street/Lena Street. The street-facing entrance on the west side of Joseph E. Lowery Blvd. is closed at this time due to construction, but a back entrance off the parking lot is open.
All station entrances immediately go down one level, where you’ll find fare machines, fare gates and the westbound train platform. One more level below is the eastbound platform. So if you are departing H.E. Holmes, Bankhead or the West Lake MARTA station and traveling to Ashby, be advised that you will have to go up two levels to reach the street.
