The Sandy Springs MARTA station opened in 2000, one of the last stations to be built in the transit system. It wasn’t even on the original plans — but growth of shopping and business centers along Ga. 400 spurred the creation of MARTA’s red line. The change of direction paid off, as today the station is surrounded by numerous shopping centers, office buildings and housing options, plus the long-term parking at the station provides an easy way to park and ride to the airport.
Out of live, work, play, there’s definitely the live and work options near the station, and play if you like to shop. Although the area has been built up, there are still plenty of trees and a suburban feel. If you plan to visit Sandy Springs, here are some of the best features of the nearby area to enjoy.
Perimeter Pointe Shopping Center
The shopping center next to the MARTA station has a number of affordable stores such as Sports Authority, Stein Mart and Homegoods along with a Starbucks and places to eat including Atlanta’s own Chick-fil-A. Click the above link for a list of stores in the area.
Or workout at L.A. Fitness at Perimeter Pointe. A local membership provides access to all the gyms in the Atlanta area. Another gym is near the North Avenue MARTA station and there’s also one at Atlantic Station.
Piece of Cake
This local bakery is in the shopping center next to the station as well. Choose from gourmet cakes, brownies, cookies and more (you’ll need that gym membership afterward).
Arguably one of Atlanta’s favorite sporting good and outdoor gear stores, REI can prepare you for some of the great hiking and camping options in and around Atlanta. There’s also a full-service bike shop.
Joey D’s Oak Room
For a more formal meal of aged steaks or New Orleans seafood, head to Joey D’s Oak Room. You’ll also find over 600 brands of spirits on display and a seasonal outdoor patio. Take the Perimeter Center West exit out of the station and turn left on Perimeter Center West to reach the restaurant.
