There’s plenty of festive December events in Atlanta, from ice skating to parades and holiday shopping. If you don’t have a car or are looking for a something to do with family and friends, here are five adventures to take on MARTA:
1. Children’s Christmas Parade
The annual Children’s Christmas Parade event marks the arrival of Santa in early December. Floats and giant balloons take over Peachtree Street in Midtown. Use the Midtown or Arts Center MARTA station for easiest access.
2. Ice Skating
Get your skates on at Centennial Olympic Park and Atlantic Station this winter. For a small fee you can skate and either enjoy holiday decorations in Centennial Park or shop and see a movie at Atlantic Station. Walk to Centennial Olympic Park from the Peachtree Center or Dome MARTA station. For Atlantic Station, take the free shuttle from the Arts Center station or walk about 17 minutes.
3. Pink Pig
The famous Pink Pig ride is a long-standing tradition in Atlanta. You can find it at Lenox Square Mall at Macy’s. After going for a ride, holiday shop at the mall, which you can reach from either the Lenox or Buckhead MARTA stations.
4. The Nutcracker
Nothing says Christmas like “The Nutcracker.” The Atlanta Ballet’s yearly performances take place at the beautiful Fox Theatre. Choose from multiple dates in December. View upcoming shows and tickets via our discount ticket partner.
5. Decatur Terrific Thursdays
Downtown Decatur is full of local and specialty shops that stay open late on Terrific Thursdays during the holiday season. View the quaint street decorations, get a coffee or hot tea for your stroll and enjoy special events, shopping discounts and treats.
