In the mood for a filet, New York strip or prime rib? Atlanta is full of steakhouses, some of which are a short walk from MARTA. See the list below for restaurant options that are great for business travelers, tourists or locals looking for a nice dinner out.
The popular Ruth’s Chris restaurant is near two MARTA stations: Dome and Buckhead. The first is in downtown Atlanta inside Embassy Suites, about a 10-minute walk from the Dome MARTA station. Take the Philips Arena exit out of the station and turn left at the top of the tall escalators. Walk around Philips Arena until you reach Marietta Street near the CNN Center. Cross over Marietta Street and turn left on it, then walk to the next intersection and turn right on Park Avenue. Patio dining is available.
The second Ruth’s Chris location is near the Buckhead MARTA station on the red rail line, also inside an Embassy Suites hotel. Take the Peachtree Road exit out of the station and walk through the pedestrian tunnel after exiting the fare gates. At street level, turn left on Peachtree Road and walk about a block.
A little off the beaten path and with a bonus patio, sports bar and Southern cuisine options, Cuts Steakhouse is near the Peachtree Center MARTA station. For the shortest walk, follow the signs pointing to Harris Street from the train platform then to Peachtree Street East after exiting the fare gates. At street level, turn left and walk to the first intersection (Andrew Young International Blvd.) and turn left again. The restaurant is on the next corner.
Morton’s the Steakhouse
Another classy and well-known steakhouse and seafood restaurant, Morton’s in downtown Atlanta is near both the Peachtree Center and Civic Center MARTA stations inside the SunTrust Plaza. From Peachtree Center, take the Harris Street/Peachtree Street East exit out of the station. Turn right at street level and right again on Baker Street (first stoplight). Walk one block and turn left on Peachtree Center Avenue.
From the Civic Center station, walk south on West Peachtree street toward the skyscrapers and left on a small diagonal street in front of Hardy Ivy park. The street dead ends at the SunTrust Plaza. The restaurant is on the backside of the building.
Room at Twelve
The closest steakhouse to MARTA, Room at Twelve is next to the Civic Center MARTA station in the Twelve Centennial Park hotel and residences building. In addition to steak, sushi is also on the menu.
Just down the street from the Civic Center station, you also can dine at BLT Steak inside the W Hotel. The trendy bistro is French inspired. Walk south on West Peachtree Street toward the skyscrapers from the MARTA station and turn right on Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd.
Another trendy spot, STK in Midtown has a raw bar and DJs for entertainment. Take a red or gold line train to the Midtown MARTA station and take the main exit out of the station. Turn right on 10th Street and walk a half-block to Peachtree Street and turn left. Walk to 12th Street and turn right at the stoplight.
LongHorn Steakhouse is a national chain restaurant with a location conveniently next to the Lindbergh Center MARTA station. Follow the signs pointing to Main Street from the station. Walk down Main Street and turn right in front of Chili’s to reach LongHorn.
In the Westin Buckhead hotel, The Palm is an upscale steakhouse with steaks, lobster and Italian dishes. Take the Peachtree Road exit out of the Buckhead MARTA station and use the pedestrian tunnel to walk underneath Peachtree Road. At street level, turn right and walk about a block.
Part of the Here to Serve restaurant group, Prime is a sushi and steak restaurant inside Lenox Square Mall. The restaurant faces Peachtree Road, making the Buckhead MARTA station slightly closer than Lenox. Take the Peachtree Road pedestrian tunnel exit out of the station and turn right at street level. Walk one block to the mall and go up one level after entering the building.
New York Prime
New York Prime is across from Phipps Plaza in a high-rise building near the Buckhead MARTA station. Choose from USDA steaks and seafood. Take the bridge exit off the north end of the train platform and follow the signs to Stratford Place (to the right after the fare gates). Turn left at the first intersection on to Stratford Place then a quick right on Alliance Center Drive. Follow the street around to Lenox Road and turn right for the office tower, or turn right to cut through the parking lot before the intersection to reach the building.
Next to Perimeter Mall, Capital Grille is a fine dining restaurant with dry-aged steaks and seafood. Take a red line train to the Dunwoody MARTA station and follow the signs pointing “To Mall” to exit the station, which is to the right after exiting the fare gate. At street level, turn left to walk around the mall. The restaurant will be on the left near Perimeter Center Parkway.
Fleming’s Prime Steakhouse and Wine Bar
Fleming’s has over 100 wines by the glass that you can enjoy with either wet- or dry-aged beef. From the Sandy Springs MARTA station, turn left on Perimeter Center West and walk about two blocks.
Parker’s on Ponce
If fine dining in a relaxed, small town environment is what you’re after, head to Parker’s on Ponce . Enjoy steak, seafood, live music, fireplaces and a large patio. Take a blue line train to the Decatur MARTA station and follow the signs to the Church Street exit. Turn left on Church and immediately left again and go up the stairs to reach the plaza above the MARTA station. At the first row of buildings, turn right and walk to E. Ponce de Leon Avenue. Cross the street at the crosswalk to reach the restaurant.
