It’s St. Patrick’s Day (or you’re just in the mood for a beer), so where do you go? Atlanta has more than one pub to help you celebrate the Irish spirit, and many also feature sporting events from around the world as a bonus. See below for the most MARTA-accessible spots to enjoy a Guinness or two. Keep in mind that MARTA train service stops around 1 a.m. so plan your fun accordingly.
Meehan’s Irish Pub
For a little bit o’ Ireland, head to the Peachtree Center MARTA station. Located on Peachtree Street, the same street as the station, Meehan’s is a great spot for a drink and a bite to eat while you catch all the soccer games. Take the Ellis Street exit off the train platform then follow the signs to Peachtree Street West. At street level, turn left. There’s also a Meehan’s in Atlantic Station — take the free shuttle from the Arts Center MARTA station.
Directly above the Decatur MARTA station is Mac McGee, a small Irish pub with big style and Irish cuisine with a twist (pictured above). Take the Church Street exit out of the station and walk up to the plaza directly above the station. The pub is on the south side of the square in a row of buildings.
Ri Ra doubles as nightlife venue with plenty of live music and DJs after hours. From the main Midtown MARTA station concourse, exit the station on 10th Street and use the crosswalk immediately in front of the station to cross the street. Walk straight ahead to 11th Street via the pedestrian plaza and turn right. Walk about a block to Crescent Avenue and turn left. You can also exit the station via the Federal Reserve exit to avoid crossing over 10th Street.
Fado Irish Pub
Also near the Midtown MARTA station is Fado Irish Pub on Peachtree Street. There’s a small outdoor patio, large indoor space, happy hour deals, trivia night and brunch. Turn left on Peachtree Place from the main station exit and walk up to Peachtree Street and turn right at the stoplight. Fado is at the next stoplight on the left.
The Marlay House
For some great pub food, large patio and live traditional Irish music on Tuesdays, head to the Marlay House near the Decatur MARTA station. Take the Swanton Way exit out of the MARTA station and walk through the bus bay to Commerce Drive. Turn right on Commerce then left on W. Ponce de Leon Avenue and walk about two blocks.
