For a serious BBQ joint with a focus on food and not frills, Daddy D’z is an Atlanta classic near the King Memorial MARTA station. The ribs are a specialty here and there are plenty of soul food sides to eat with your meat.
Fox Bros. Bar-B-Q
Along MARTA and freight rail lines near the Candler Park MARTA station, Fox Bros. has a large patio and large plates of food. Some people think this restaurant is the closest you can get to Texas barbecue in Georgia. So eat up! Follow the signs to the North Parking station exit and walk west on Dekalb Avenue toward the stoplight for about 10 minutes.
One of the few MARTA-accessible BBQ spots north of the city, Lovies BBQ is a short walk from the Buckhead MARTA station on the red line. The menu is simple with sandwiches, plates, salads and Southern sides. Exit the station at the north end via the bridge, and follow signs pointing to Tower Place for the shortest walk.
Twin Smokers BBQ
Twin Smokers is one of two downtown barbecue restaurants near the Mercedes-Benz Stadium. With several hotels and tourist attractions in the area, the restaurant is a convenient place to get your fill, plus the meat is outsourced from local farms as an extra perk.
The Smoke Ring
The other barbecue restaurant near the Mercedes-Benz Stadium is Smoke Ring in Castleberry Hill — an old warehouse district next to the railroad. Although Smoke Ring is further away from the touristy spots, you can enjoy the historic and modern here and experience a more local vibe as you enjoy a Southern cocktail or moonshine with your meal.
Head northeast on the gold line to Chamblee for casual dining at Pig-N-Chik. In addition to sandwiches and plates, you can order nachos and wings or purchase barbecue by the pound.
Bone Lick BBQ
Bone Lick BBQ has two locations in Atlanta, one of which is in downtown Atlanta on Edgewood Avenue. The area has seen massive growth in restaurants and nightlife, and the streetcar also services the area. As for the food, it’s a blend of different barbecue flavors and techniques along with goodies like jalapeno mac ‘n cheese and tater tots.

Just down the street from Bone Lick is Sweet Auburn Barbecue in the Sweet Auburn Curb Market. Not only is the market a great place to explore, but you’ll also enjoy the restaurant’s slow-cooked meats, wings and even a great veggie plate if you’re not a carnivore.
