While a horse and carriage, yacht or private plane might be some of the more romantic forms of travel, a local train trip can at least get you somewhere romantic. There are many places to eat near MARTA stations, so you don’t have to walk far for a special meal. And besides, sometimes an after dinner stroll adds that extra spark and magic to an evening that you might miss if you are waiting for the valet to get your car.
To help you plan your date night, here are some of our favorite romantic Atlanta restaurants that are near transit. MARTA trains operate until approximately 1 a.m., so plan to use an alternate travel method to get back home if you will be out late.
The quintessential romantic destination in Atlanta, the Sun Dial restaurant offers panoramic views of the city from the top of the Westin Peachtree Plaza hotel. Enjoy cocktails and conversation as you linger over fine dining and live jazz. The menu changes based on what is seasonal, though standards such as the roasted filet of beef are always offered. Take the Harris Street/Peachtree Street West exit out of the Peachtree Center MARTA station and turn right at street level on Peachtree Street to reach the hotel. Reservations are recommended.
Another downtown restaurant, Glenn’s Kitchen is in the historic Glenn Hotel near Philips Arena and the Dome MARTA station. The atmosphere is sophisticated and relaxed, the cuisine American with a hint of Southern. Surprise your date before or after dinner with a visit to the rooftop bar where you can take in one of the best skyline views of Atlanta. From the Dome MARTA station, follow the signs to the Philips Arena exit and keep right at street level to walk up the stairs. Walk a block to Marietta Street and turn right.
The Georgian Terrace, home of the Livingston Restaurant and host of the 1939 “Gone With the Wind” gala, has long been an elegant and stately destination for special occasions. The restaurant’s large arched windows and terrace doors overlook the Fox Theatre, and inside you can step back in time into Atlanta’s history for upscale dining and dessert. Take a red or gold line train to the North Avenue MARTA station and follow the signs to the Fox Theatre exit. Walk through a small indoor mall to 3rd Street and turn right. Walk about a block to Peachtree Street and turn right again (cross the street first).
The Melting Pot
Also near the North Avenue MARTA station is the classic date night spot The Melting Pot. With a focus on fondue, you can feast with your special someone on cheese, meat, vegetables and chocolate. Entrees and salads are also the menu. Take the Fox Theatre exit out of the North Avenue station and turn right on 3rd Street. At Peachtree Street, turn left and walk about a block. Combine dinner with a show at the Fox or live jazz at Churchill Grounds to extend the evening.
Pasta da Pulcinella
Tucked away on a quiet Midtown street in an old house is Pasta da Pulcinella. The Italian restaurant has a charming patio for warmer months and a cozy interior for intimate conversation. As a bonus, the twinkling lights of the Midtown skyline are overhead at night, or take a stroll around town before or after dinner. Use the Federal Reserve exit out of the Midtown MARTA station and at street level, walk north through the courtyard to enter Peachtree Walk. The restaurant is about two blocks down the street. You can also use the West Peachtree exit at the Arts Center MARTA station, turn left on West Peachtree Street, left on 13th and right on Peachtree Walk.
One Eared Stag

Downtown Decatur has over 50 restaurants in walking distance from MARTA, including No. 246, a higher-end Italian restaurant near the Decatur Square. For extra fun on your date, head to the back patio in warmer weather to play ping pong under twinkling lights. Take the Church Street exit out of the Decatur MARTA station and turn left. Walk less than a block to East Ponce de Leon Avenue and turn left again to reach the restaurant.
A destination further out of the city, Capital Grille next to Perimeter Mall provides an upscale steak, seafood and wine experience. Candles provides mood lighting, and the Le Méridien Atlanta Perimeter Hotel is across the street if you want to combine dinner with an overnight stay. Turn left at street level in front of the parking deck and walk around the mall to the north end to reach the restaurant, which is in front of Dillard’s. Or walk through the mall and exit via Dillard’s in bad weather.
