Atlanta Streets Alive has become a popular city event where neighborhood streets are closed to cars, allowing pedestrians, skaters and bike riders to explore entertainment, activities and local businesses. There are several locations where the event takes place, one being the Highland Atlanta Streets Alive on Highland Avenue, N. Highland Avenue, North Avenue and Boulevard. See below for commute options.
The Inman Park MARTA station is closest to the Highland route. Take a blue line train to reach Inman Park on the weekend (transfer to an eastbound “Indian Creek” train at the Five Points MARTA station if you are traveling from the red or gold line). Follow the signs pointing to Inman Park to exit the station. At that point the PATH trail to the right of the parking lot winds around to N. Highland. Or in the opposite direction, walk through the bus bay to enter Edgewood Avenue and walk about a block to Elizabeth Street and turn right for a more direct route.
The BeltLine Eastside Trail travels close to N. Highland Avenue near the Inman Park Village. Get off the trail at any point between overpass (Elizabeth Street near the skate park) and Parish restaurant. Or use the Old Fourth Ward park sidewalk spur to reach the North Avenue segment of Atlanta Streets Alive.
The Stone Mountain PATH trail crosses over N. Highland Avenue near the Carter Center, which is a useful route for those commuting from Candler Park and further east.
