The Grant Park Summer Shade Festival takes place every year at the end of August. There is a large artist market, food, live music, 5K and kids zone. For additional family fun, Zoo Atlanta is also in the park if you want to combine destinations into one trip.

The closest MARTA station to the festival is the King Memorial MARTA station on the blue/green rail line. You can walk from the station, but plan on it taking 35 minutes. It can be a fun urban hike (or bring your bike or rent a Relay bike at the station). Sights on the way include Oakland Cemetery, Victorian homes and a number of restaurants.

Train + Walk/Bike Directions

  1. Take a blue or green line train to the King Memorial MARTA station
  2. Go to street level and turn left on Grant Street/Hillard Street.
  3. Walk two short blocks to Memorial Drive and turn left again.
  4. At Cherokee Avenue turn right (Ria’s Bluebird on the corner, which is a great breakfast/lunch restaurant). Cherokee will take you straight to the park.

Bus

Transfer to bus 9 at the King Memorial MARTA station, which travels to Grant Park via I-20 and Boulevard every 30 minutes. Almost all stops south of the interstate and before Custer Avenue are next to the park. It is free to ride the bus if you are transferring from a train, otherwise, regular fare is $2.50.
