Morningside is an intown Atlanta neighborhood filled with attractive older homes next to Piedmont Park and Virginia Highland. There’s a small commercial area on N. Highland Avenue near the intersection with Lanier Blvd. with restaurants and businesses including Doc Cheys, Family Dog (a restaurant with regular live music), Alon’s Bakery and Natural Body Day Spa. Saturday mornings you can also visit the neighborhood’s well-known farmer’s market.
Directions
The closest MARTA stations to Morningside are Arts Center and Lindbergh Center, which are good to use if you plan to use Uber or Lyft to get to or from the station to the neighborhood. (The best bike option is to use Arts Center and commute through Piedmont Park).
Otherwise, there are two buses that serve the area:
Bus 816 travels on N. Highland Avenue from downtown Atlanta via the Five Points MARTA station and also stops at the Sage Hill Shopping Center (contains a Kroger). It is a great commute option if you live in the neighborhood and work downtown.
Bus 36 travels to and from the Midtown and Avondale MARTA stations via N. Decatur Road, N. Highland Avenue and Virginia Avenue. It provides a commute option for those working in Midtown Atlanta (or near the MARTA red or gold rail line), CDC or Emory University.
