MARTA to the Wren’s Nest

The Wren’s Nest is the preserved home of Joel Chandler Harris, author of the Uncle Remis stories and creator of Brer Rabbit. At 1050 Ralph David Abernathy Blvd., the Queen Anne style house (built around 1870) is a 15-minute walk away from the West End MARTA station on the red and gold lines. Tours are available of this historical landmark or attend an event.

MARTA Directions

  1. Take a red or gold line train to the West End station
  2. Exit the station on Lee Street and turn right
  3. At the first stoplight, turn left on Ralph David Abernathy Blvd. and walk about two blocks (see walking map).

You can also transfer to bus 71 at the station, which is a bit better for children and safer depending on time of day. It is free to ride the bus if transferring from a train. As a bonus, the bus is frequent, with departures every 10 to 15 minutes. Use the MARTA on the Go app for schedules and real-time bus locations. Tell the driver your destination or signal to exit the bus when you reach the large church on the left side of the street. The bus will drop you off at the next stoplight. Cross over the street at the light and walk back toward the church (the house is next door).
