MARTA to the Decatur Wine Festival

Every year downtown Decatur hosts a wine festival on the Decatur Square, which sits right above the Decatur MARTA Station.  Hundreds of wines are showcased and live music is provided while you sample the vino.  The event usually sells out and requires tickets.  This year tickets are $35.

Very convenient to MARTA, merely board a blue line train and exit at the Decatur Station.  If coming from the red or gold lines, exit at Five Points and look for signs pointing to the Eastbound platform.  From there, board an Indian Creek train.  Bus 2 also makes alternating trips to the Decatur Station from midtown.  The bus travels the length of Ponce de Leon Avenue, so if you live close to Ponce or the North Avenue Station, board bus 2, but be sure to check schedules and with the bus driver that the route continues to Decatur.  You can pay cash to ride the bus, just bring exact change. Each one-way trip is $2.50.

Decatur MARTA Station

The Decatur MARTA station is located in downtown Decatur, just off the Decatur Square and near Agnes Scott College at 400 Church Street.  It is one of the safest and most walkable MARTA stations and has many restaurants, residential and commercial buildings in close walking distance (see area map).

Directions
To get to Decatur on the train, you must be on an eastbound train labeled “Indian Creek”.  If you are coming from the north or south lines, you must exit at Five Points and follow the signs to the Eastbound platform to catch the Indian Creek train. The major cross streets for this station are E. Ponce de Leon Aveune and Church Street, and there is a passenger drop off/pick up location off of Church Street.

Inside the Station
There are two exits out of the station:  Swanton Way and Church Street.  The Swanton Way exit takes you to the buses and is closer to locations such as Eddie’s Attic and Taco Mac.  The Church Street exit is on the east side and is next to Java Monkey, Yogurt Tap, Leon’s and is the best route to get to Agnes Scott, Twain’s and other venues on the back side of Decatur.

Buses
Buses that depart this station go to both North and South Dekalb Malls, and also Cabbagetown and up Clairmont Road past the VA Hospital (see the list of bus routes).  The free CCTMA Cliff Shuttle to the CDC/Emory campus also departs here.

Parking
There is no parking at the Decatur station, however, the stations on either side of Decatur have free daily parking (Avondale and East Lake).

Commute Time
It takes 13 minutes to get to Five Points/downtown and 29-49 minutes to the airport.
