MARTA to Gwinnett

November 13, 2009 · Leave a Comment

While MARTA does not extend into Gwinnett, you can connect to the Gwinnett County Transit System from the Doraville Station.  As the last stop on the MARTA yellow line, the Doraville Station provides access to GCT Route 10 that travels up Buford Highway through Norcross, ending at the Gwinnett Transfer Center/Gwinnett Place Mall.  The transfer center allows connections between all five local GCT routes and seven express routes.

There is also GRTA Express Route 410 that goes directly from the Lindbergh Station to Discovery Mills.  And GRTA Express Route 412 goes to Discovery Mills from the Civic Center and Arts Center Stations in addition to several other midtown stops in between.

GRTA Express is $3 one way or $5 roundtrip.  GCT rates vary by route, from $2-$4.  Transfers to/from MARTA are free and you can use your Breeze Card for Route 10.

Emory University

June 26, 2009 · Leave a Comment

While Emory University is not near a MARTA station, there are two fairly easy and frequent bus routes that go the the Emory campus.

The best option is bus 6, which departs from the Inman Park and Lindbergh MARTA station. This route goes completely through campus on Clifton and North Decatur Road and has a stop at the Emory Village as well.

You can also ride bus 36 from the Arts Center or Avondale Stations. This bus travels on North Decatur Road.

In addition to access to the university and Emory Village, both routes also provide easy access to the Schwartz Center for Performing Arts and the Marco C. Carlos Museum.

Getting the Chastain Park on MARTA requires a bus. Take the train to (or park your car in the free lot) at the Lindbergh Station and take bus 38 to the park. However be advised that the last bus back leaves around 8:30pm, so you will have to find an alternate way of getting back to the station if you attend a concert. Write your MARTA planners on that one.

Oops – on the wrong train

June 8, 2009 · Leave a Comment

I’m a seasoned MARTA rider and sometimes I still accidentally get on the wrong northbound train.  MARTA has two north lines – to North Springs and to Doraville.  You have to be careful as sometimes the trains are announced or labeled incorrectly, or on rare occasion, two Doraville or two North Springs trains will come in a row – so don’t assume that if the first train that comes by is a North Springs train, that the next will be a Doraville.

If you need to switch trains, the point of no return is at the Lindbergh station.  You are in luck though if you happen to be going to the Buckhead or Lenox stations.  Of course you can wait for a train to take you back to Lindbergh to transfer to the right train, or you can actually just walk as these stations are less than 20 minutes apart on foot.    Especially if you are  going to Lenox Square Mall or Phipp’s Plaza, both stations are equally convenient to the malls, so it doesn’t really matter if you get on the wrong train.  Bus 23 and 110 also connect the two stations if you’d rather ride.
