MARTA to the University of Georgia

One of MARTA Guide’s readers requested directions to the University of Georgia.  This one is tricky.  For one, the University of Georgia is in Athens, GA and not Atlanta, and MARTA only operates in Fulton County in the Atlanta Metro area.

However, Southeastern Stages provides a transit service from Atlanta to Athens at 10:15am and 6:45pm.  The Atlanta pick up is at the Greyhound Station at 232 Forsyth Street, which is just outside the S1 Garnett station on the north/south rail line.  You can call 404-584-1728 for the station, or 404-591-2750 Monday – Friday between the hours of 7:30 AM – 4:00 PM to verify trip information.  Email is  driver@sestages.com.

Southeastern Stages also travels to Augusta, Savannah, Charleston, Myrtle Beach, Asheville, Columbia and more.

MARTA to Oglethorpe University

Oglethorpe University is only a mile north of the NE8 Brookhaven station (see area map).  If you are coming from downtown or the airport, you must be on a northbound train marked “Doraville” to get to Brookhaven.  Remember to transfer at Five Points to the northbound platform if you are coming from the east-west rail line.

It is better to take a bus as Peachtree Industrial (the walking route) is a busy road.  You can choose from two buses:

  • Take bus 25 northbound from the NE8 Brookhaven or NE7 Lenox station (be advised there will also be a bus going southbound).  There is a bus stop across the street from the university on Peachtree Road/ Peachtree Industrial Blvd.
  • Bus 341 also goes by the campus on Hermance Drive, and departs from N8 Medical Center and NE8 Brookhaven.

For more information and specific schedules, see how to use Google Maps for MARTA directions.

MARTA to Tech Square

The Georgia Tech Technology Square is located in Midtown in between the N3 North Avenue and N4 Midtown stations (see area map).  It is slightly closer to the North Avenue station, though if you are coming from the north, you can easily exit at Midtown as well.  The area features the Georgia Tech Hotel, conference center and BBQ, pizza, deli and Asian restaurants.

For the shortest and most protected walk, take the Fox Theatre/AT&T exit out of the North Avenue station.  After exiting the fare gates, walk straight ahead through the shopping mall and exit onto 3rd Street.  Turn left onto 3rd then right onto West Peachtree.  Tech Square is less than two blocks up on the left at 5th Street.

When exiting at the Midtown station, take the Peachtree Place exit out of the station and turn right.  Next, turn left onto West Peachtree Street and walk down to 5th Street.
