MARTA to Atlanta Fulton County Public Library

There are several public libraries accessible via MARTA and the main central library is conveniently located across the street from the Peachtree Center MARTA station.

Take a red or gold line train to Peachtree Center and follow the signs to the Ellis Street exit after getting off the train.  After going through the fare gates, keep right to follow the signs pointing to Peachtree Street West.  At the top of the tall escalator, walk straight ahead to reach the library.

There are also three other branches that are fairly easily accessible:

  • Ponce de Leon Library – Take  bus 2 from the North Avenue station and exit at Ponce and Fredrica Street.
  • Peachtree Library – Exit at the Arts Center station and follow the signs to the exit pointing to Arts Center Way.  Go up two sets of escalators then turn left at street level alongside the back of Woodruff Arts Center.  Turn right at 16th Street and walk a block to Peachtree Street (see walking map).
  • Buckhead Library – Take bus 110 from the Buckhead or Lenox station and head south on Peachtree Road.  Exit at Buckhead Avenue, which is between E. Paces Ferry and Pharr Road (see area map).

For more information, see MARTA Maps and how to use Google Maps for MARTA directions.

MARTA to St. Joseph’s and Northside Hospital

St. Joseph’s Hospital and Northside Hospital are very easy to get to on MARTA as the hospitals are right next to the Medical Center Station on the red line, near I-285 in the north.  If you are coming from the airport/downtown/midtown, you must be on a train labeled “North Springs” to reach the Medical Center station.  After 7pm you must take the first available northbound train to the Lindbergh Center station, exit the train and wait for a North Springs train there.

Exit the station on to Peachtree Dunwoody Road for Northside Hospital will be on the right and across the street, along with various other medical office buildings (see area map).  For St. Joseph’s Hospital, exit the station toward the parking deck (look for signs pointing to Deck Level One).  You can go up the decks escalator/elevators to reach the hospital.

MARTA to the Atlanta History Center

While not in close walking distance to a train station, the Atlanta History Center is still accessible via bus 110, which travels along Peachtree Road/Peachtree Street from downtown all the way to Buckhead.  You can board the bus at just about any point along Peachtree Street, or for the shortest ride, take a red line, North Springs train to the N7 Buckhead station.

Take the first set of stairs out of the station and at street level there will be a bus stop for route 110.  Tell the bus driver that you’d like to exit at West Paces Ferry Road.  Once off the bus, turn right off of Peachtree Road onto West Paces Ferry (do not cross Peachtree Road) and walk about 10 minutes to reach the history center.

You can also take either a red or gold line train to the Arts Center station and get on bus 110 there.

MARTA to the Piedmont Park Green Concert

green concert logoOn Oct. 15, 2010 the Eagles will perform in Piedmont Park.  As a green concert, concert goers are asked to take MARTA to the event, especially as parking is limited.  See below for a summary of MARTA directions, or view the complete MARTA options for the Green Concert, including parking tips, on Examiner.com.

There are two stations near Piedmont Park:  Midtown and Arts Center on the north-south (red/gold) rail line.  Both will involve a 15-20 minute walk (see walking directions).  Exiting at the Arts Center will put you closer to the Park Drive rear concert entrance, while exiting at the Midtown station will put you closer to the 10th Street/Charles Allen entrance.

Additionally, there are several bus options from the Midtown station that can reduce your walking time, routes 27, 36 and 99.  As long as you ride the train and tap your Breeze card on the blue circle when exiting the rail station, you can ride the bus for free.

There are several Target stores that are accessible to MARTA:

E3 Inman Park
After exiting the fare gates, turn right, following the signs pointing to Inman Park.  At street level turn right and walk east (away from downtown) along Dekalb Avenue.  At the first stop light, turn left and follow the street ramp down and around to Moreland Avenue and turn right.  The shopping center with Target will be at the second light.  You can also walk on the Reynoldstown side of the tracks, but it isn’t as safe.

N5 Arts Center
Take the free Atlantic Station shuttle from the Arts Center Station into Atlantic Station.  Exit at 17th and State Street, turn right onto State Street on the Atlantic Station shop side of the street.  Target is at the end of the street.

N6 Lindbergh
Take the northern most exit out of the station, following the signs to Morosgo Drive.  Keep walking straight ahead once you exit the station to walk down Lindbergh Lane.  Turn right onto Sidney Marcus when you come to the T.  Walk about two blocks and Target will be in a shopping center on the right.  Look for the Target sign marking a stairwell that will take you underground to the store.  Be advised that the storefront is not visible from the street as it is on the lower level of a parking deck.

NE7 Lenox
Take the main exit out of the station and walk straight ahead alongside Lenox Road.  Turn right at Pier One/Kingsboro Road , then left at the next intersection, which is Oak Valley Road.  Walk about a block and then turn right into the parking garage marked Target/Publix.  Walk straight to the back of the garage to reach Target.

N9 Dunwoody
Target is just north of Perimeter Mall.  After exiting the fare gates, turn right to walk down the corridor.  Go down the flight of stairs and turn right, then a quick left alongside the road beside Perimeter Mall.  By walking straight through the parking lot, you can reach the shopping center with Target, located at roughly at Perimeter Center West and Perimeter Center Place.

MARTA to the 14th Street Playhouse

The 14th Street Playhouse is closest to the N5 Arts Center station.  The easiest route is to take the West Peachtree Street exit out of the station and turn left to walk along West Peachtree.  Turn left again at 14th Street and walk about three blocks.  The playhouse will be on the right, across from the W Hotel.

You can also walk up the big hill on 15th Street, turn right onto Peachtree and then left onto 14th.  While it is a slight workout, the benefit is that especially later in the evening, there is more foot traffic.

For more information, see the 10 easiest destinations to get to on MARTA and other arts and culture MARTA directions.

MARTA to the W Hotel

There are four W Hotels in close proximity to MARTA:

  3. W Hotel Buckhead
Take a red line/North Springs train to the Buckhead Station.  After exiting the fare gates, keep walking straight ahead until the corridor dead ends at a elevator/stairway (bypass the first set of stairs).  Go up to street level and turn right.  The W Hotel is about a block down on the right and also features a swanky rooftop bar called Whiskey Blue.
  4. W Hotel Perimeter
It is a little harder to walk to this hotel due to lack of sidewalks, and if you have luggage, getting a taxi from the Dunwoody Station is advised.  Otherwise, take a North Springs/red line train to the Dunwoody station and after exiting the fare gates, turn right to walk along a corridor that eventually goes down to street level.  Turn right at the bottom of the stairs then a quick left at the first street to walk around Perimeter Mall.  The hotel is at the northern side of the mall campus (see area map).
