Bankhead MARTA Station

Bankhead MARTA Station

The Bankhead MARTA station is at the end of the green rail line on Donald Lee Hollowell Parkway (see map). The surrounding area is primarily residential and Proctor Creek is next to the station, which is another, yet rarely used, name for the green line.

To get to the Bankhead MARTA station, board a westbound Bankhead train at the Five Points MARTA station. The Bankhead train is a “short” train, and only travels as far east as the Candler Park MARTA station on weekdays and to the King Memorial on weekends. The Ashby MARTA station is the last transfer point to a Bankhead train.

To get to the station you must be on a blue line train. If you are coming from the red or gold line, travel to the Five Points station and follow the signs to the Eastbound train platform and board an “Indian Creek” train.

Georgia State MARTA Station

The Georgia State MARTA Station is an elevated station at 170 Piedmont Avenue SE on the blue and green rail line. It is directly connected to the Sloppy Floyd State Building on the eastbound train platform.

To get to the station you must be on a blue or green line train, which runs east and west through downtown Atlanta. If you are traveling from the red or gold line, travel to the Five Points MARTA station and follow the signs to the eastbound train platform and board the first train that arrives.

Once at the station, all stairs, escalators and elevators go down one level to the street where there are two exits to choose from: Jesse Hill Jr. Drive and Piedmont Avenue.

Airport MARTA Station

Airport MARTA Station

The Airport MARTA Station is located at the end of the red and gold rail lines, and is directly connected to the Hartsfield-Jackson Airport Domestic Terminal at the end of baggage claim. The area surrounding the station is not walkable, though ground transportation options next to the station include hotel shuttles and the free SkyTrain to a rental car center and two hotels.

Atlanta Airport Arrivals

If you are arriving at the airport, all trains (red and gold) go to downtown, Midtown and Buckhead. If you are traveling to Buckhead, Medical Center, Dunwoody, Sandy Springs or North Springs MARTA stations, board a “North Springs” train up until 8:30 p.m. After 8:30 p.m., get on the first available train and transfer to the red line at the Lindbergh Center MARTA station.

Traveling to the Airport

If you are traveling to the airport, almost all southbound trains travel to the station. The only exception is in the evening after 9 p.m. on the red line. If you are departing from the North Springs, Sandy Springs, Dunwoody, Medical Center or Buckhead MARTA stations, the southbound train only travels as far as the Lindbergh Center MARTA station. Passengers are asked to exit the train and wait at Lindbergh Center for the next southbound train, which is usually no more than five minutes away.

If you are departing from a station on the blue or green rail line, travel to the Five Points station and follow the signs to the southbound train platform (down one level) to reach the airport.

The Dome/GWCC/Philips Arena/CNN Center MARTA station is located at 100 Centennial Olympic Park Drive in downtown Atlanta on the blue and green rail lines.

Medical Center MARTA Station

The Medical Center MARTA station is located on the red line at 5711 Peachtree Dunwoody Road near several hospitals and medical centers. Via car, this station is off I-285 at exit 26 Glenridge Drive (eastbound only) or exit 28 Peachtree Dunwoody Road (westbound only).  From Georgia 400, it is exit 3.

On MARTA, board a northbound train marked “North Springs” to get to this station if you are traveling from the airport or downtown Atlanta. If you are commuting from Doraville, Chamblee, Brookhaven or Lenox, go south to Lindbergh Center, exit the train and wait for a North Springs train at that station.

The Avondale MARTA station at 915 E. Ponce de Leon Avenue is near downtown Decatur on the blue rail line. It’s primarily a residential area, though a handful of restaurants and businesses are in walking distance.

The area around the Five Points MARTA station is highly walkable with schools, businesses, restaurants and attractions in walking distance, although many venues are not open in the evening or on the weekend. There tends to be a lot of loiters on the street around the station, which may create an uncomfortable environment for most commuters. While street people are mostly harmless, it is good to remain aware of your surroundings, especially at night.

There is no parking at this station and passenger pick-up is not easy or ideal. The Forsyth Street exit is the best location for dropping off or picking up.

All trains stop at Five Points and there are numerous bus routes that connect with this station, which travel to destinations such as Sweet Auburn, Virginia Highlands, MLK Jr. Drive,  Turner Field,  southeast Atlanta and Grant Park/Zoo Atlanta.  In addition there is access to the Braves Shuttle and an express route to Lithonia.

Chamblee MARTA Station

The Chamblee MARTA station is on the gold line at 5200 New Peachtree Road near the intersection with Chamblee Tucker Road. Downtown Chamblee is on one side of the station and an international area on the other. Townhomes, condos, lofts and apartments are in walking distance, although the area is primarily commercial.

Board a northbound Doraville train to reach the Chamblee MARTA station. You can get on a Doraville train at any point from the Airport station to the Lindbergh Center station. If you are traveling from the blue or green rail line, you must exit at Five Points and follow the signs to the northbound platform and wait for a Doraville train there. If you are starting from the Doraville MARTA station, take the first train southbound one stop.

The Buckhead MARTA Station is located on the red rail line at 3360 Peachtree Road next to Ga. 400. There’s easy access to shopping and dining as well as a 15-minute or less train ride to attractions in Midtown and downtown.

You must be on a red line train (labeled “North Springs” if coming from the south) to reach the Buckhead station. If traveling from the blue or green rail line, exit at Five Points and follow the signs to the northbound platform to get to a North Springs train.

Be advised that after 8:30 p.m., you can only get to a North Springs train at the Lindbergh Center station.

The Inman Park MARTA station is on the blue and green rail line, two miles east of downtown Atlanta at 1055 Dekalb Avenue. It is the closest MARTA station to Little 5 Points and also provides access to neighborhoods, parks, restaurants and retail.

Decatur MARTA Station

The Decatur MARTA station is located in downtown Decatur at 400 Church Street. It is one of the safest and most walkable MARTA stations and has many restaurants, residential and commercial buildings in close walking distance (see area map).

To get to Decatur on the train, you must be on an eastbound train labeled “Indian Creek”. If you are coming from the north or south lines, you must exit at Five Points and follow the signs to the eastbound platform to catch the Indian Creek train. The Indian Creek MARTA station is the very end of the blue line at 3901 Durham Park Road, near I-285 on the east side of the city (see map).

The North Springs MARTA Station is at the very end of the red/north line at 7010 Peachtree Dunwoody Road, just outside I-285 and along GA 400. The station is primarily a commuter station with very little nearby except for residential areas.

To get to North Springs, you must be on a northbound train labeled “North Springs”. You can get on a North Springs train at any station from the Airport to Lindbergh Center, before 9 p.m. After 9 p.m. you must take the first available train (should be marked Doraville) to the Lindbergh Center MARTA station to transfer to a North Springs train. Passengers traveling from the blue or green rail line must also transfer to a northbound train at the Five Points station.
