Departs from the Five Points, Candler Park and H.E. Holmes stations and travels along MLK Jr. Drive and Auburn Avenue.

MARTA to Mozley Park

Mozley Park is a historic neighborhood and park west of downtown Atlanta, in between the West Lake and Ashby MARTA stations.  The area is primarily residential with an elementary school and public park (Mozley Park).  The park features a swimming pool, playground, softball fields, basketball courts and a tennis court.  The PATH trail also runs through the park, which is part of a connected city-wide network of bike trails.

Two buses travel to the area.  Board bus 3 at the Five Points or H.E. Holmes Station for easy access to the park off Martin Luther King Jr. Dr.  Or connect with bus 13 at Five Points or West Lake Station on the blue rail line, which travels further into he neighborhood.

For those who wish to walk, exit at the Westlake Station and exit the station toward West Lake Avenue.  Walk through the parking lot to Browning Street and keep walking straight ahead to reach the park and further down to reach the residential neighborhood.

MARTA to Savi Urban Market

Savi Urban Market is a neighborhood market in Inman Park, located at 287 Elizabeth Street near the intersection with N. Highland Avenue.  In addition to grocery and alcohol (plus regular tastings), there is the option to order breakfast and lunch, and choose from pre-made salads, soups, sandwiches, entrees and desserts.

The closest MARTA station is the Inman Park Station on the blue/green rail line.  You can walk to the market through the Victorian neighborhood in less than 15 minutes.  From the station, exit to the Inman Park (not Reynoldstown) side of the station.  After going down the stairs or escalator, walk straight ahead through the bus bay and cross over Hurt Street to enter Edgewood Avenue.  Walk a block and turn right on Elizabeth Street and walk another 2.5 blocks.

On weekdays, bus 3 also stops near the market on both Lake Avenue and N. Highland Avenue.  You can board bus 3 downtown and at the Five Points or Candler Park Stations. Or board bus 16 at Five Points exit by the Carter Center to walk to the market from there (see walking map).

Helpful Tips

  • The market is close to the BeltLine trail if you are adventuring on/coming from the BeltLine.
  • The walk from MARTA is pleasant, with restored Victorian homes, large trees and parks.
  • Nearby destinations to combine with your trip include Inman Perk Coffee, Dad’s Garage and the Carter Center.

MARTA to Studioplex

Studioplex is a converted warehouse/loft that has residential and commercial spaces as well as an art walk once a month.  The building is located at 659 Auburn Avenue in the Old Fourth Ward neighborhood, where Auburn ends at Irwin Street/Lake Avenue on the edge of  Inman Park.  Both the Inman Park and King Memorial Stations are nearby, though it is a long walk from either station (you can get on the BeltLine outside the the King Memorial Station however).

The best bet is to take bus 3 weekdays only from Five Points or the Candler Park Station.  The bus has a stop on Irwin Street in front of Studioplex on alternating trips, otherwise the bus travels about a block away on North Highland Avenue.  If on Irwin Street, exit the bus by the railroad tracks/tall roadside tower/Serpas restaurant.  If on the alternating bus, exit at Randolph and John Wesley Dobbs Avenue (brick school on the corner).  Walk south on Randolph Street and turn left at the first stoplight, which is Irwin.  Walk about two blocks (see walking map).

For those wanting to bike or walk to Studioplex from the BeltLine trail, exit at the King Memorial Station and at street level turn right to walk away from downtown on Dekalb Avenue.  A couple blocks down will be the trail next to an apartment building.  Turn left on the BeltLine to reach Studioplex.  Total walking distance is about 1 mile.

    • Because the location isn’t very walkable from a station, bring a bike with you on MARTA and bike from the Inman Park Station.
  • You can also take bus 99 from the Georgia State Station, exiting at Boulevard and Irwin Street, but the walk isn’t the most ideal.  Be aware of your surroundings  and use caution if going this route.

MARTA to the BeltLine Eastside Trail

The BeltLine is Atlanta’s hopeful light-rail project that operate in a loop around intown Atlanta neighborhoods using existing rail beds.  It will also include trails, the first of which will be the Eastside Trail, scheduled to open in 2012 and run from near the King Memorial MARTA Station to Piedmont Park.

MARTA currently crosses this trail in several places.  Choose from:

  • King Memorial Station – at street level turn right and walk about two blocks along Dekalb Avenue for the south end of the trail.
  • Five Points and Candler Park Stations – board bus 3 on weekdays to reach the Eastside Trail in the Inman Park neighborhood.  If getting on the bus at Five Points, make sure the destination of the bus is to the Candler Park Station.  Exit the bus around Krog Street and Serpas.  The bus will literally go over the trail.
  • North Avenue, Candler Park and Decatur Stations – board bus 2 to connect with the Eastside Trail at Ponce de Leon Avenue and Ponce City Market.  The bus travels underneath the rail bed and a new pedestrian ramp will be created there. Exit by the huge brick building at the stoplight (across the street is Whole Foods/Home Depot).
  • Midtown StationBus 36 and 99 have stops next to the Eastside Trail, which runs along Park Tavern and Piedmont Park.  Exit around 10th Street and Monroe Drive by the Grady High School stadium.
  • Inman Park Station – A long walk or a pleasant bike ride, exit on the Inman Park side of the station and walk past the bus bay at street level and keep walking straight ahead on Edgewood Avenue.  Turn right on Krog Street, which is about six blocks down.  From Krog, walk another two blocks.

MARTA to Castleberry Hill

Castleberry Hill is an eclectic and artistic neighborhood just southwest of downtown Atlanta that hosts a regular art stroll (see area map).  The closest MARTA station is the Garnett Station on south red/gold line, though it is about a three block walk in a transitional area.

If you plan to bike or walk from Garnett, take the Trinity Street exit out of the station and turn left on Trinity.  Keep right at the split in the road and go up and over the bridge.  At this point, the street changes to Peters Street, which forms the edge of the neighborhood.

Bus 3 and bus 13 travel to the neighborhood as another option and depart from the Five Points Station.

MARTA to the Krog Tunnel

The Krog Tunnel is one of Atlanta’s more off-the-beaten-track attractions.  It is known for its graffiti that is equally artwork and advertisement space for local area events.  The tunnel is located where Old Fourth Ward, Inman Park and Cabbagetown meet.  There is no bus route that travels into the tunnel (not enough height), but you can get within a two block walk.

Take bus 3 from either the Five Points or Candler Park Station and exit at Krog Street and Irwin Street.  Look for the lofty brick buildings and railroad tracks.  Walk south on Krog Street toward Stove Works and the tunnel will soon be visible (see area map).  Nearby destinations include the BeltLine, Studioplex, Serpas tapas, Kevin Rathbun’s Krog Bar and 97 Estoria pub. **Note, bus 3 only travels to the area on weekdays only.  Another option is bus 21, but that does require a much longer walk. Exit at Pearl Street and Memorial Drive.
