Travels on Peachtree Street from Five Points to Lenox Mall in Buckhead.

MARTA to the Courtyard Buckhead Marriott Hotel

The Courtyard Buckhead Marriott Hotel is less than a 10 minute walk from the Buckhead station on the red rail line.  You must be on a train labeled “North Springs” to reach the Buckhead station (after 7pm take any northbound train to the Lindbergh station and wait there for the Buckhead train).

After getting off the train and going through the fare gate, take the first set of stairs or elevator to street level and turn right on Peachtree Road.  Turn right again at the first stoplight to reach the hotel (see walking map).

MARTA to Embassy Suites Buckhead

The Embassy Suites Buckhead Hotel is located a short walk from the Buckhead MARTA station on the red line.  If you are coming from the airport, downtown or midtown, board a northbound train labeled “North Springs”.  After 7 pm you must take any northbound train to the Lindbergh station, exit the train, and wait for a North Springs train at Lindbergh.

Once you exit the train at the Buckhead station,  exit the fare gate and walk straight ahead into the pedestrian tunnel that runs underneath Peachtree Road.  At street level, turn left and walk about a block.

Ruth’s Chris Steakhouse is located inside the hotel, and nearby restaurants include Fresh 2 Order, Buckhead Pizza, Brick Tops, Flying Biscuit and Maggiano’s Little Italy.

MARTA to the Atlanta History Center

While not in close walking distance to a train station, the Atlanta History Center is still accessible via bus 110, which travels along Peachtree Road/Peachtree Street from downtown all the way to Buckhead.  You can board the bus at just about any point along Peachtree Street, or for the shortest ride, take a red line, North Springs train to the N7 Buckhead station.

Take the first set of stairs out of the station and at street level there will be a bus stop for route 110.  Tell the bus driver that you’d like to exit at West Paces Ferry Road.  Once off the bus, turn right off of Peachtree Road onto West Paces Ferry (do not cross Peachtree Road) and walk about 10 minutes to reach the history center.

You can also take either a red or gold line train to the Arts Center station and get on bus 110 there.

MARTA to the Grand Hyatt Buckhead

The Grand Hyatt Buckhead is a short walk from the Buckhead train station on the red rail line.  Make sure you are on a train labeled “North Springs” if you are coming from the airport, downtown or midtown.  After 7 p.m. you must connect with a “North Springs” train at the Lindbergh station if you are traveling northbound.

Once at the station and after going through the fare gate, take the first set of stairs (or escalator) to street level.  Turn right and walk about two blocks (see area map).  Approximate walking time is 6 minutes.

MARTA to the Westin Buckhead Hotel

The Westin Buckhead Hotel is located on Peachtree Road next to Lenox Mall.  The closest train station is the Buckhead station on the red rail line.  If you are coming from the airport, downtown or midtown, be sure you are on a train labeled “North Springs”.  After 7 p.m. you can only connect to a “North Springs” train at the Lindbergh station.

After exiting the fare gates at the Buckhead station, take the pedestrian tunnel underneath Peachtree Road.  At street level, turn right and walk about 1.5 blocks.

MARTA to the Buckhead Theatre

The Buckhead Theatre is located at 3110 Roswell Road, and was formerly called the Roxy Theatre.  The closest MARTA station is N7 Buckhead.  Take the first set of stairs out of the station and either wait there for bus 110 (which goes by the theatre), or turn right on Peachtree Road and walk about 20 minutes.  The theatre is located at the intersection of Peachtree and Roswell Roads.

MARTA to the Hyatt Regency

The Hyatt Regency Atlanta hotel is located at 265 Peachtree Street, in close walking distance to the Peachtree Center MARTA station on the red and gold rail lines (see area map).  The hotel is the location of the 2011 Downtown Countdown inclusive New Years Eve party and also features an outdoor pool, 24 hour gym and three restaurants: Market, Sway and Twenty-Two Stories.

For the shortest walk, exit the train at Peachtree Center  and follow the signs pointing to the Harris Street exit.  After exiting the fare gate, follow the signs again to Peachtree Street East.  Once you reach street level, turn right to walk along Peachtree Street and walk about a block to reach the Hyatt.  You can also reach the hotel through the Peachtree Center Mall without having to go outdoors.  Follow the signs to the mall via the Harris Street exit and there is a skybridge as the far end of the building away from Peachtree Street.

MARTA to the German Bierfest

The annual German Bierfest takes place in Woodruff Park  in downtown Atlanta, about half-way between the Five Points and the Peachtree Center stations on the north-south rail line (see area map).

If you are coming on the east-west, blue/green lines, exit at Five Points and follow the signs to street level then to the Peachtree Street exit.  Turn left onto Peachtree Street and walk about two blocks to get to Woodruff Park.

Otherwise, if you are coming from the north or south, you can also exit at the Peachtree Center Station.  Follow the signs pointing to the Ellis Street/public library exit.  After exiting the turnstiles, turn left and either take the elevator or escalator up to street level. At street level, turn left to walk along Peachtree Street.  The park is about 1.5 blocks down on the left.

MARTA to the Westin Peachtree Plaza Hotel

The Westin Hotel in downtown Atlanta is very easy to get to from the Peachtree Center Station on the north-south rail line, which connects to the airport.  Follow the signs to the Harris Street exit after exiting the train, then after exiting the fare gate, follow the signs  pointing to Peachtree Street West.  This exit will put you on the same side of the street as the hotel (see area map).

Once you’ve reached street level, turn right and walk about a half-block to the hotel.  This entrance is a side one, and the main entry is in the rear of the building should you care to walk around on the street.  To do this, turn right onto Centennial Olympic Park Drive and walk a block.

Area attractions include the Georgia Aquarium, World of Coke, CNN, Centennial Olympic Park.

MARTA to the W Hotel

There are four W Hotels in close proximity to MARTA:

  1. W Hotel Downtown
    Exit at the Civic Center Station on the red/gold rail line and head south (toward the skyscrapers) on West Peachtree Street.  Turn right at the first stoplight, Ivan Allen Jr. Blvd., and the hotel will be about a block down on the right.
  2. W Hotel Midtown
    Exit at the Arts Center Station on the red/gold rail line and take the West Peachtree Street exit out of the station.  Turn left to walk alongside West Peachtree Street and turn left again onto 14th Street.  Walk about 3.5 blocks to reach the hotel at 188 14th Street.  You can also get on bus 27 at the Midtown station, which has a stop across from the hotel.
  3. W Hotel Buckhead
    Take a red line/North Springs train to the Buckhead Station.  After exiting the fare gates, keep walking straight ahead until the corridor dead ends at a elevator/stairway (bypass the first set of stairs).  Go up to street level and turn right.  The W Hotel is about a block down on the right and also features a swanky rooftop bar called Whiskey Blue.
  4. W Hotel Perimeter
    It is a little harder to walk to this hotel due to lack of sidewalks, and if you have luggage, getting a taxi from the Dunwoody Station is advised.  Otherwise, take a North Springs/red line train to the Dunwoody station and after exiting the fare gates, turn right to walk along a corridor that eventually goes down to street level.  Turn right at the bottom of the stairs then a quick left at the first street to walk around Perimeter Mall.  The hotel is at the northern side of the mall campus (see area map).

MARTA to the Apple Store

If you’re a little iPhone crazy or need a new Apple gadget, there are two Apple Stores right off the MARTA rail line.

The first Apple Store location is in Lenox Mall.  You can take a northbound Doraville or North Springs train from the airport/downtown and exit at either the NE7 Lenox station or the N7 Buckhead station.  The store is about half-way between the two stations inside Lenox Square.  For more specific walking directions, see MARTA to Lenox Mall.

There is also an Apple Store at Perimeter Mall, which is right next to the N9 Dunwoody station.

MARTA to the Atlanta Financial Center

The Atlanta Financial Center is located next to the N7 Buckhead MARTA station.  If coming from the airport or from downtown, you must be on a train labeled “North Springs” to get to the Buckhead station, which is on the north/south red line.

Once exiting the fare gates at the station, keep walking straight ahead and take the pedestrian tunnel underneath Peachtree Road, bypassing the first set of stairs to street level.  At the end of the tunnel go up the stairway and turn right to walk alongside Peachtree Street.  The first driveway on the right will be for the Financial Center.  Walking time is less than 5 minutes.

MARTA to the Georgian Terrace Hotel

The Georgian Terrace Hotel is a historic hotel in Midtown, just a block off the North Avenue Station on the red/gold rail line (see area map).  It was a popular destination for guests attending the world premiere of “Gone With the Wind” and today it is directly across from the Fox Theatre and the Churchill Grounds Jazz Cafe.

Take the North Avenue/West Peachtree Street exit out of the station and at street level turn right to walk north along West Peachtree Street.  At the first intersection, turn right onto Ponce de Leon Avenue.  Walk up the hill and the hotel will be on the next corner.

MARTA to the Margaret Mitchell House

Famous home to the author of Gone With the Wind, the Margaret Mitchell House and Museum is conveniently located almost directly next to the N4 Midtown station.  Take a red or yellow line train to the Midtown station (all trains from airport and downtown will stop at Midtown) and take the main exit to street level (avoid the Federal Reserve stairwell exit).  Exit the station onto 10th Street and turn right.  The house is on the next corner.

MARTA to Piedmont Hospital

Piedmont Hospital is located on Peachtree Street in between Midtown and Buckhead (see map).  It is not in walking distance from a MARTA rail station, but you can take bus 110 from either the N7 Buckhead, NE7 Lenox or N5 Arts Center stations to get there.

The most direct route is to catch the northbound 110 bus at the Arts Center.  The bus travels up and down Peachtree Street and has a stop at the hospital and the neighboring Shepherd Center.

If you get on bus 110 at the Buckhead station, make sure it is a southbound bus (take the first set of stairs out of the station to street level).  Be advised that both the Arts Center and Buckhead stations have the 110 bus going both north and southbound.  If you aren’t sure if you are on the right bus, just ask the driver.
